This holiday is always going to be synonymous with the game of baseball for me. Even if I’m 35 and alone at my mother’s with my two year old son. It’s too hot for him at the parade.
I haven’t seen an inning of baseball yet, by the way. It’s a Wednesday that the holiday falls on this year. I have a hellacious two days of work to finish out this week.
But the 4th of July is still a special holiday. I’ve reached another summer’s midpoint. I don’t drink anymore, I don’t play ball anymore, and I barely grill or barbecue. But the memories from past Fourth of July celebrations and the nostalgia of those memories are enough for me for 2018 to smile a little bit and appreciate why this day is celebrated in the first place!
Tonight I’ll catch a few innings before we head out, after my kiddos are asleep. And I’ll find a way to get through these next couple days.
So enjoy your holiday. Thank you for your continued support of Diamond Hoggers.
