Carlos Correa is one of our favorite players in baseball. If he’s not number one, he’s probably number two or ‘1.b’. We are going to write a lot about Carlos Correa in 2017.
FanGraphs came out with their Houston Astros 2017 Zips projections back in December, and this team is going to be shitloads of fun this upcoming season. Highlighting that is the centerpiece of the entire organization, the young Correa.
ZiPS sees Correa posting a semi-monster season in his age-22 year:
7 fWAR, 85 runs, 37 doubles, 4 triples, 27 home runs, 115 RBI, and 20 steals with just four caught stealing.
All this is coupled with a .280 average, .358 on-base percentage, and .489 slugging percentage.
Correa is going to have a monster year in 2017, we’re calling it right now. It’s exciting to see ZiPS (our favorite projection system) seeing him in a favorable light for the upcoming year.
We said entering 2016 that he was the guy we most couldn’t wait to watch. We might have been just a year early – it felt like the Astros were about a year away in general and just a half a click off. Entering 2017, he’s not going to be on *quite* as many radars. We may watch him just slightly less than every plate appearance to begin with. And that’s when the breakouts just seem to organically happen.
We think a 30-30 season is within reach, and Correa cements himself as one of the top ten or top five players in all of the game in 2017. And we’re going to chronicle all of it. Love this guy.
