Paulo Coelho: 10 Quotes To Remind You To Grow Wilder
from Paulo Coelho https://ift.tt/2FErFBA
Meet the Real Estate Tech Founder: Natalia Karayaneva from Propy
In our latest real estate tech entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking withNatalia Karayaneva from Propy.
Without further ado…
Who are you and what do you do?
I studied software engineering and soon after that I got involved in real estate and started building and selling properties. For 12 years, I was part of the international real estate world, which included founding my own development company. All this time, I was interacting with foreign buyers who were having the same problems when buying property abroad; that’s how the idea of Propy was born. At the beginning of 2016, blockchain technology made it possible for me and my team to firmly believe that the real estate industry will never be the same again.
What problem does your product/service solve?
Using revolutionary blockchain technology, Propy is aiming to change not only the way we buy and sell real estate but also how we record it. The current process is not secure and lacks transparency. In the U.S. alone, there is $1billion in annual loss due to a title and wire fraud. Propy facilitates paperwork and records deeds via blockchain so the process cannot be hacked. Everything happens online which lets you buy property easily and remotely – as it is common now for people to live, work in, and travel to other cities and countries. You don’t have to leave home to complete the entire transaction which is great news for global citizens, international business persons and, of course, millennials. Millennials dislike visiting banks and dealing with paper and bureaucracy. Thus automation of the real estate purchase process can increase home buying rates amongst future generations.
What are you most excited about right now?
After we successfully completed the first ever real estate transaction on the Ethereum blockchain and released our adaptive transaction tool that allows us to process deals worldwide, I’m now looking forward to announcе several new pilot programs with governments that are interested in adopting our Blockchain Registry and onboard the most progressive brokerages (three of them will be revealed soon) to use our Transaction Management Platform in their offices.
What’s next for you?
After entering the Asian, European and US markets with our transaction platform this year, we have serious interest from both real estate corporations and governments to integrate our technology.
We’re also focusing on our promotional campaigns that aim to inform agents about the advantages of Propy and showing them how to use the platform for their deals.
2019 is set to be the year of change, evolution, and innovation. Stay tuned for the official launch date of our website and the full roadmap for this year on our Medium blog and our newsletter.
What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?
All my life I’ve been supported by talented people and therefore I am passionate about helping the younger part of society that doesn’t have the same opportunities or access to basic needs such as education. I am also passionate about the sustainable and green urban environment and support the measures governments do to reduce CO2 emissions.
Thanks to Natalia for sharing his story. If you’d like to connect, find her on LinkedIn here.
We’re constantly looking for great real estate tech entrepreneurs to feature. If that’s you, please read this post — then drop me a line (drew @ geekestatelabs dot com).

AL Bold Predictions
1. Byron Buxton falls just short of having a 30/30 season. He steals 35 and hits 21 homers in winning the AL Comeback Player of the Year. The upstart Twins and Rocco Baldelli make the AL Wildcard Game before being swallowed whole by the Red Sox.
2. Alex Bregman has the season of his life – in winning the MVP over Aaron Judge and Mike Trout. He literally carries Houston to the playoffs. In turn, Jose Altuve hits .270 and everyone feels like his world is ending.
3. Mike Trout misses significant time due to injury and plays in just 80 games.

5. The Texas Rangers are a 100 loss team.
NL Bold Predictions
1. The Dodgers make a third straight World Series behind the return of Corey Seager. Joe Kelly is closing games by that time, and Kenley Jansen is finding himself in the set-up role. They get back to the World Series – however – lose to the Yankees.
2. The Reds win 84 games, Yasiel Puig hits 25 homers and misses some time due to injury. He signs an in-season extension in Cincinnati, and the Reds begin to turn their future for 2020 with Nick Senzel on the horizon.
3. Aaron Nola is baseball’s best pitcher, far and away. I am not sure on the stats but he becomes ‘the guy’ in 2019.
4. Nolan Arenado wins the triple crown but somehow does not finish in the top three in MVP voting.
5. The Philadelphia Phillies lose in five games in the NLCS with Bryce Harper. Harper finishes the year with the best numbers since his MVP season and second in NL MVP voting behind Ronald Acuna. Acuna goes 30/30 officially with a .315 average and wills the Braves through the Wildcard round of the playoffs where they push the Dodgers to the brink with thin pitching in seven games in the NLCS.

3 Tips to Remember When Painting the Bathroom
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
One way to completely change the look of your bathroom without actually spending very much is to repaint it. If you’re going to DIY this project, then make sure you keep in mind the following tips:
Photo by Sebastien LE DEROUT on Unsplash
Ensure appropriate ventilation
Make sure your bathroom has proper ventilation. If not, the high levels of humidity can damage your paint. An open window and a ceiling fan or exhaust fan can help clear a room full of steam, removing moisture and drying walls. Try to run your fan for an hour after every shower or bath. Source: Forbes
Pick the right paint
Bathroom windows take a beating: Blinds go up; windows open and close. Candles, blow dryers and other hot items often lie on top of the ledge. So use a durable semigloss or gloss trim paint that can handle the abuse. If the window will take direct rain and wind, chances are that it’ll get wet sooner rather than later, so you may want to use an exterior paint. Source: Houzz
Choose a color that works well with your space
Dark, weighty colors in small spaces often make the user feel claustrophobic. Should you surrender to that classic bathroom color, white? Not necessarily. Light, airy, bright bathroom paint colors such as light-blue or light-yellow always work well. Since darker paint colors make spaces feel small, any type of lighter color will be an improvement.
However, this is not an iron-clad edict. To make darker colors work in bathrooms, include other elements that leaven the ponderous feeling that dark colors bring on. Shiny, reflective chrome or brass sink fixtures or cabinet pulls add bright stars of light to dark spaces. Also, make sure that your bathroom lighting is adequate both for the space and for the color palette. Source: TheSpruce

Toronto Blue Jays 76.5 +120 -150Arizona Diamondbacks 77.5 +110 -140
Atlanta Braves 84.5 -125 -105
Chicago Cubs 88.5 -140 +110
Cincinnati Reds 77.5 -115 -115
Colorado Rockies 82.5 -150 +120
Los Angeles Dodgers 94.5 -115 -115
Miami Marlins 65.5 +105 -135
Milwaukee Brewers 84.5 -160 +130
New York Mets 84.5 -120 -110
Philadelphia Phillies 85.5 -140 +110
Pittsburgh Pirates 77.5 -115 -115
San Francisco Giants 73.5 -125 -105
St. Louis Cardinals 88.5 -115 -115
Washington Nationals 87.5 -125 -105
As the MLB Standings continue to cement themselves – at least one of these teams will far underachieve and several will surpass expectations.
Personally, I think it’s a tough/good line with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It truly feels like they’re going to win either 94 or 95 games on the nose. Be careful if you’re thinking about wagering either way on the Dodgers, with both propositions offered at -115.
Equally important – I think value resides in the Minnesota Twins at 84.5. Of course this is just a personal feeling – however the Twins are upstart with a flush young roster and new manager in Rocco Baldelli. I don’t know that the division as a whole will be that competitive. Almost by sheer process of elimination; the Twins can compete in that division with the Indians with some game theory and guile.
Who do you think is a great under win total bet? In the same token, who is a great over win total bet? Let us know in the comments below!

Spring Home Maintenance Checklist
After months of cold temperatures, we’re finally saying good bye to winter! Welcome spring with a much-needed checkup of your home. Here are the first places you should examine:
Photo by Bernard Hermant on Unsplash
Inspect the chimney
If you have a masonry chimney, check the joints between bricks or stones. Have any fallen out? Is there vegetation growing out of them? Each signals water infiltration. Also, look for efflorescence—”a white calcium-like deposit that indicates your masonry joints are no longer repelling water but absorbing it,” says Niles. Consider re-sealing masonry with a clear, impermeable or water-resistant barrier material (like Thoroseal products). Brush it on, small areas at a time; let it absorb for 15 minutes, then reapply—it may need a couple of applications. Source: BobVila
Check the roof
Winter storms can take quite a toll on a roof. When spring arrives, start by making a simple visual inspection of yours. “It doesn’t require a ladder, and you certainly don’t have to get on a roof to look,” Sedinger says. “Use binoculars or a camera or smartphone with a telephoto feature if you need to.” Look for missing shingles, metal pipes that are damaged or missing or anything that simply doesn’t look right. If you notice anything that needs closer inspection or repair, call a roofer. Source: Houzz
Don’t forget the gutters
Winter takes its toll on the plant life around your house, and that’s bad news for your gutters. Use the spring season as a reminder to clear fallen leaves and other debris from your gutters. You’ll be thanking yourself when the spring showers turn to downpours and all that water can safely and effectively drain away from your home!
To knock this task off your spring home maintenance checklist, climb safely up a ladder and remove anything you find in the gutter. Then, run a hose up to your roof so you can ensure proper drainage all the way through the downspout. When the water pours out, make sure it runs away from your home’s foundation. Also, check that all downspouts are still securely attached to your home and fix any that have pulled away. Source: Freshome
Don’t let the chill of winter deal damage to your home. Call us for a professional inspection now!

Planning an Outdoor Shower
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
For people who love hiking, going to the beach, and other outdoor activities, having a shower before entering the house means less mess to clean. You get to avoid bringing sand, sludge, and dirt inside. Have an outdoor shower ready by summer when you start doing the project today! Here are some pointers to consider:
Photo by Abigail Lynn on Unsplash
Determine where to place it
“Outdoor showers are a nice feature for pool owners or beachfront homes,” says Jarret Acevedo, a master plumber and owner of Jarret Acevedo Plumbing and Heating. However, depending on how low your temperatures drop in the winter, you’ll need to take precautions with your shower. “Care is definitely needed to plumb it properly to protect from freezing if it’s an area with frigid temperatures,” Acevedo warns.
Placing your shower strategically kills two birds with one stone. “Depending on your layout, you can punch through the shower wall and build a shower that opens up to another rain shower outside,” says Jonathan Self. Source: Freshome
Have a good drainage system
Where water goes is just as important as where water comes from. Most homeowners drain their outdoor showers into a separate manhole, a storm ditch or a gutter system linking to the home’s graywater tank. Locating your shower in a place that receives a lot of sunlight is another way to eliminate water buildup.
“Be sure to check your local building codes about the disposal of gray water,” says Gloven.
Chris Marchese, CEO of Marquis Gardens, suggests using Permeable Pavers or artificial turf for drainage and flooring because they blend into the environment. He also notes that it’s critical to only use biodegradable soap and shampoo when your drainage line is being naturally discharged.
If you’re concerned with slipping or mildew, composite boards make great flooring for outdoor showers. “They dry quickly and feel fantastic underfoot,” says Thomas O’Rourke, owner of Decking Hero. “Plus, they last between 25-30 years, so it’s a good value for your money, about $70 per square foot.” Source: FoxNews
Add a privacy wall
Outdoor showers typically offer less privacy than their indoor counterparts, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. A well-placed wall creates a quaint little nook in which to shower while enjoying the sunshine. The secluded area allows for peaceful bathing in the buff—no matter how nosy the neighbors. Source: BHG

Meet the Real Estate Tech Founder: Brian Saab from Unearth Technologies
In our latest real estate tech entrepreneur interview, we’re speaking with Brian Saab from Unearth Technologies.
Without further ado…
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m a cofounder and CEO of Unearth Technologies, a data management platform for physical assets and large scale construction projects. When we created Unearth 3 years ago, our focus was drones and their potential to enhance the construction industry. It only took about 6 months for us to realize that drones were just a symptom of a larger trend: an explosion in data collection and analysis for the built world in general. As CEO, I ensure we recognize these larger trends and steer the company toward the forefront of the market’s current and potential needs.
What problem does your product/service solve?
Any company that works with physical assets, like buildings or infrastructure, has a significant amount of digital data to deal with. When managed correctly, it can optimize your operations and save millions of dollars. But, when companies become buried under their data, it can actually slow them down and cost them millions. Unfortunately, when it comes to the built world, most companies are in the latter situation.
Files and folders have always been the primary means of organizing any information. They work well when you’re talking about abstract data, like financials, performance metrics, and recordkeeping, but when you’re dealing with data related to a place or building, they actually become a hindrance. The need for industries like utilities, construction, oil and gas, and telcom to have a simpler, more profitable way to manage their data is the focus of Unearth.
Our software unlocks the benefits of modern data management for industries that have been neglected by the tech world. In our initial focus on drones, we realized the most natural and convenient way to organize data related to something physical, something in the real world, is with a map. We were fairly surprised to find that no one had built a simple way for companies to data management at scale with maps, and jumped at the opportunity.
What are you most excited about right now?
We’re currently launching a niche module for our platform focused on cross bore mitigation and detection for the utilities industry. It’s an essential process for preventing deadly gas explosions, and also one that proceeds painfully slowly due to the limitations of current systems. We’re significantly streamlining how utility companies assign work to contractors, review the inspected pipelines, and store the data for future reference. We reduce the process from several weeks to several days. It’s exciting for me because we’re not only providing immense value to our customers, we’re expediting a critical process for preventing future catastrophes; something that will ultimately save lives.
What’s next for you?
It’s time to start to grow faster, and that’s my biggest focus in the near term. We’ve built an incredible team and product – and with our work with Utilities, we’re solving a mission critical problem around the country. With our incredible progress over the last year, and we’re ready for an expansion to exponentially increase our ability to capture new markets and opportunities.
What’s a cause you’re passionate about and why?
My family (Jessica and I) are big supporters of a charity organization called Global Partnerships. The mission is to stimulate entrepreneurship in developing economies, which almost exclusively means empowering women as the heads of household to start a company and build security for their family and broader community. It’s an incredible mission and we’ve seen how transformative even a little bit of capital and guidance can be to an entire community. It’s not just wealth we’re talking about here, we see health conditions, education access, shelter and security all become achievable in a matter of months. It’s really inspiring to be a part of an organization that can affect such significant change for those in need.

3 Ways to Stop Hair from Clogging the Bathroom Drain
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
Do you often experience the struggle when you shower and then there’s a mini flood going on, because the drain gets clogged with your hair? It’s so annoying and disgusting. Stop it from happening again by doing the following tips:
Photo by Element5 Digital on Unsplash
Prevent hair fall
Some hair is going to fall out in the shower while you are washing and conditioning, but there are some things you can do to keep hair out of your drains to start with. Brush your hair thoroughly before entering the shower. When loose hair collects on your fingers while shampooing and conditioning, set it on a shelf or the edge of the tub instead of dropping it into the water. If you prevent as much hair from entering the tub drain as possible, use a strainer to keep the rest out and then regularly use a cleaning or clog-preventing product on your drains, you should not have a clogging problem. Source: Hunker
Install a drain screen
This is a piece of metal mesh that can be purchased at a local hardware store and that will fit directly over your current drain opening. It will trap any extra soap scum, hair, or other debris, keeping it from going down the drain. Read the installation directions closely, as you may need to secure the screen on top of the drain with plumber’s putty.
Make sure to remove the screen and clean it on a periodic basis to keep the water from backing up into your shower. Source: WikiHow
Drench it with vinegar
Always keep a bottle of vinegar in the bathroom. Along with its many uses around the house, vinegar is a cheap way to keep your drains clear. Simply pour half a bottle of white vinegar down the drain every 3 months and it should do the trick. The secret is to let it sit for 10 minutes (the acid will remove any clogs that are forming) and then flush with hot water. Source: Home.BT

Different Uses for Vinegar in the Bathroom
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
Cleaning the bathroom shouldn’t be expensive and difficult. You can easily do it with one of the cheapest household items you can find: vinegar! Here are some ideas you should try the next time you see filth building up.

Toilet Stains
Deposits under the rim of your toilet bowl can be really hard to clean! To help dissolve the deposits and make them easier to scrub away, grab a few paper towels and your trusty bottle of white vinegar.
Soak a wad of paper towels with vinegar, then tuck the towels up under the rim of your toilet bowl. Let the vinegar work its magic for a few hours, then remove the paper towels and scrub clean. Source: OneGoodThingByJillee
Dirty Shower Head
Too much gunk blocking your shower head? Just remove the shower head and soak for a few hours in straight vinegar. After soaking, give it a quick scrub!
Tip: If gunk doesn’t remove easily, wrap a watertight plastic bag full of vinegar around the shower head, secure with an elastic band and leave to soak. Source: StayAtHomeMum
Blurred Mirror
Just like windows, mirrors can be cleaned with a 50/50 vinegar and water mix in a spray bottle and wiped with old rags from cut-up t-shirts or newspaper (paper towels leave a lot of residue with this method).
The easiest way, if you have them, is to use microfiber cloths (1 regular one wet, and one polishing one dry, or just one regular wet one and one regular dry) to clean without the need for chemicals at all. Source: WellnessMama
Shower Curtain Mildew
Put the shower curtain in the washing machine with light-colored towels; add 1 cup white vinegar to the detergent and wash. Source: DIYNetwork
Grimy Floor
Clean the floor around the drain with a vinegar solution: 1 cup of vinegar for every 3 liters of water. A handy time to do this is when you’re mopping the floors! Keep in mind that the use of vinegar on floors should be limited to no-wax floors. Source: Cleanipedia
If your bathroom fixtures are still dirty despite all the effort and cleaning items you’ve used, then maybe it’s high time for a replacement. Check out our website for the most affordable yet best-looking items in the market.

Common Renovation Terms to Know
Before investing your money on anything, it’s always good to study the basics first. Here are the top words most homeowners should learn before starting any house project:
Photo by Eugen Str on Unsplash
Remodeling
“Remodeling” is often broadly used to describe any kind of change to an existing house. Technically, it’s more accurate to say that remodel means to change the character of a house or a portion of a house. So when you convert a den into a master bedroom you’re remodeling the den. Source: Zillow
Journeyman
A term used in carpentry to describe a carpenter who has completed an apprentice program in a local union. The term may also apply to any carpenter who has extensive experience in the carpentry trade.
Load-bearing wall
Any wall in the structure that acts as foundational support for a load resting upon it. These walls are usually composed of sturdy materials, such as brick, block or concrete. Source: AngiesList
General contractor
The person responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the remodeling project. Most states require the general contractor to be licensed, bonded, and insured. This is usually your point person for questions and communications.
Gut a room
Remove everything from a room, including the wall covering, until all that’s left are the framing, subfloor, and what’s inside the walls. Source: HouseBeautiful
R&R
If you think this refers to the relaxation and recreation you’ll enjoy once your renovation is complete, think again. “R&R” is the term contractors frequently use (and that you may see on their invoice) to mean “remove and replace.” It describes a simple renovation project that involves removing and replacing cabinetry, fixtures, and/or appliances without structural or mechanical changes (the latter of which is something you might do to a kitchen or bathroom). Spotted Lanternfly Quarantine in Dauphin County
For those of you unfamiliar with the Spotted Lanternfly, you can read more about it here. The Spotted Lanternfly quarantine now includes Dauphin County.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA), Dauphin County is now part of the Spotted Lanternfly quarantine zone. Let’s take a quick look at what this means for businesses and homeowners in Dauphin County.
Impact on Businesses
If you operate a business in Dauphin County that has commercial vehicles (company cars, service trucks, etc.), the quarantine applies to you.
Businesses that operate company vehicles inside the quarantine zone are required to register with the Department of Agriculture for quarantine compliance. Basically, this involves someone from the business or organization passing a test on how to inspect for Spotted Lanternfly adults, nymphs, and eggs.
Once that training is complete, the individual in the organization that passed the exam is required to organize a training for the rest of the business to ensure compliance. Once completed, you receive orange placards that you must display from your rearview mirror. These placards indicate that you’ve inspected your vehicle to ensure you’re not transporting any Spotted Lanternfly adults, nymphs, or eggs.
It sounds pretty onerous and time-consuming, but it’s really not that much of a burden. Once you know what to look for and how to do a quick inspection, it goes pretty quickly.
Final note: this applies to ALL businesses operating commercial vehicles inside quarantine zones. This isn’t just something landscapers and lawn care companies are responsible for. Plumbers, carpenters, roofers, you name it – if you’re operating a vehicle with a business name on it, you’re responsible for understanding the quarantine, and displaying a placard.
You can find more information about permit requirements here.
Homeowner Responsibility
Homeowners have some responsibility in this, too.
Spotted Lanternfly nymphs aren’t the brightest. They’ll congregate in huge numbers in seemingly random places. I’ve seen a picture of thousands of stage 4 nymphs (the black and red ones, right before they reach adulthood) on the tires of a wheeled bulldozer.
This makes a homeowner’s role in slowing the spread of this pest even more important. The PDA has compiled a checklist of things that homeowners should inspect prior to travelling. You can find the full list here, but they include:
- Campers, RV’s, and Motor Homes
- Tents and tarps
- Firewood and lumber stored outside
- Propane or oil tanks
- Barbecue grills
- Outdoor furniture
- Bricks, pavers, and cinder blocks
- Dog houses, chicken coops, and storage sheds
- Yard decorations and garden tools, including lawn mowers
- Yard debris
- Trees, shrubs, and other plants, especially if purchased in part of the Quarantine Zone
- Kiddie pools and play houses
- Bicycles, scooters, etc.
- Old pallets
As you can see, there’s a lot of stuff to check out. The adult stage, when they’re mating later in the season, will lay their eggs on any and all of these items.
Also, if you live outside the quarantine zone, please continue to report sightings of the Spotted Lanternfly. This helps Penn State and the Department of Agriculture keep track of how quickly it is spreading, and expand the quarantine zone if needed. You can use this site to report a sighting. Click here to see if your county is currently under the quarantine.
Why is this important for me?
There’s lots of reasons this impacts us here Lancaster, Dauphin, York, and Lebanon Counties. The economic impact of this pest alone is potentially catastrophic.
Spotted lanternfly is currently feeding on plants with a high sugar content in the sap. According to researchers at Penn State, Pennsylvania is the number one exporter of hardwoods (like maple) in the United States. We’re number four in the nation in apple and peach production, and fifth in the country in grape production. We haven’t even mentioned the landscape and nursery industry. These are all targets for the Spotted Lanternfly to feed on.
The current value of these commodities that will potentially be impacted is staggering. The value of the three fruit crops mentioned above is about 134 million dollars of the current Pennsylvania economy. The landscape and nursery stock would mean potential damage to over 940 million dollars in commerce here in the Commonwealth. The damage to hardwood production is potentially devastating – Pennsylvania currently earns almost 17 billion dollars from hardwoods each year.
The potential disruption of nearly 17.8 billion dollars in revenue in the State’s economy impacts us all.
In addition, there’s the potential for this pest to disrupt property values, tourism, and our native ecosystem. It doesn’t have a natural predator here in North America (being native to Asia), so there’s no real way to calculate the havoc it might wreak with our native plant and insect balance.
Keep checking in with us regularly for updates on the Spotted Lanternfly as they become available. If you have concerns about the potential damage to your landscape, feel free to Contact Us for a free consultation. We’re happy to talk to you about a tailored management plan for your property.
