Chase Utley has surprisingly re-signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Utley had recently been reported to have narrowed his decision to four teams. This is kind of a surprise. The Dodgers have so many guys and recently acquired Logan Forsythe to be their starting second basemen. Still, the move figures to be one that keeps a future fringe Hall of Fame guy and clubhouse glue around for a 15th season. And the Dodgers best player (Corey Seager) really wanted Utley back in Los Angeles for one more season.
Corey Seager is going to be very happy.

In another move that is totally puzzling, the Dodgers signed Franklin Gutierrez to add to their glut of outfielders. This figures to take some at-bats away from a guy like Trayce Thompson and maybe Andrew Toles. It’s just kind of a weird move.
