What If Your Business Is Actually a Community?

I often tell people community building is the most defensible strategy in existence. It’s also the hardest.

For those who want to better understand community, you should read the latest post by David Spinks at CMX Hub (hint: he knows more about community than virtually anyone I know) on Medium, titled “What If Your Business Is Actually a Community?

Think about it.

Zillow’s business IS a community, spanning execs, employees (and former employees like me), board members, investors/shareholders, advisors, agents, brokers, MLS’, tech vendors, media — and millions and millions of home owners, buyers, and sellers.

Is your business a community? How are you strengthening it on a daily basis? The trick is to change your mindset from:

What can community do for my business?

to…

What can our business do for the community?
