Johnny Depp now has compounds listed on two continents — a French village on which he recently doubled the price, and this group of five penthouses in Los Angeles’ landmark Eastern Columbia Building.
The penthouses, for which Depp’s asking $12.78 million, span 11,500 square feet, according to listing agent Kevin Dees of Partners Trust, and Depp did not remove the walls between them, because he wanted to maintain their architectural integrity. There are doorways connecting three of the units.
“These units are like pieces of art,” Dees said. And they can be bought individually, in case you have a hankering for one-fifth of the Art Deco spread.
Built in the 1930s and renovated in 2007, this collection of four 2-bedroom and one 1-bedroom units sits atop a building in downtown Los Angeles that’s known for its four-sided clock tower, The Wall Street Journal pointed out.
Depp used three of the units for living and entertaining, while the other two were an art studio and a guest suite. They’re decorated with vibrantly textured walls and an eclectic mix of furnishings that call to mind a bygone era.
“Being in the space is inspiring,” Dees said. “If you’re upstairs in the master suite, looking at the unbelievable view to the north, down Broadway with all these historic buildings — it’s like you’re transported to 1930. That’s what it must have looked like.”
Depp, who reached a divorce settlement with actress Amber Heard this summer, continues to own property all over the world. “These penthouses are a small piece of a very large collection,” Dees said, adding that the Los Angeles real estate market is hot, with historic properties including the Playboy mansion recently selling.
Dees also represents a sixth unit for sale in the same building: A one-bedroom, two-bath penthouse with three levels, a private terrace, and a price tag of $3 million. “It’s really killer,” he said. “It’s just an awesome, awesome, awesome building.”
