5 Common Home Repairs

There are certain home repairs that are unavoidable over time and every homeowner will eventually face them. In this short post we’ll discuss some common home repairs, including: holes in walls, sticky doors, stuck sliding windows, creaky floorboards and roof problems.

Below are 5 common home repairs:

Holes in Walls
Holes in walls are nearly unavoidable, even if you’re only renting. However, unless you’ve done plowed a car through it, you can fix most holes pretty cheaply. The simplest holes to fix are going to be screw or nail holes from hanging everything from pictures to TVs. For holes like these, you’ll want to clean the area of any debris and wipe down the wall. Use a putty knife to press some spackle into the wall and let it dry. Once it’s done, use some fine grain sandpaper to sand it down until it’s nice and flat. Depending on how seamless you need it to be and what color you your walls are, you may need to apply a coat of paint.
Larger holes can be a bit trickier. If a doorknob or fist went through the wall, you’ll need to cut out a rectangular section of the drywall surrounding the hole. Then, cut a piece of drywall from some scraps (or whole pieces you can buy at a hardware store).  Source: LifeHacker

Sticky Doors
Sticking or binding doors can sometimes cause squeaks because they put extra pressure on the hinges. Hinges can also get noisy when they begin to oxidize. If your door hinges announce anyone entering or leaving the room, you might be able to silence them with a little lubricant. First, cover the area under the door with a cloth and then apply penetrating oil to the hinges. Be sparing at first. After applying a few drops, open and close the door to work lubricant into the moving parts of the hinge. Give it a couple of minutes, and try opening and closing the door one more time. If there’s still a squeak, apply a few more drops and go through the process again. Source: HowStuffWorks

Stuck Sliding Windows
A little silicone spray lubricant (sold at hardware stores) will grease the skids. Spray it onto a rag, then wipe along the tracks, whether they’re metal, wood, or plastic. Source: RealSimple

Creaky Floorboards
Floorboards can creak either because their fastening screws have come loose, or because they’ve swollen and now rub against each other. Once you’ve found the problem, it’s easy to fix. Dodgers lose Kershaw, win series finale in Milwaukee with a Seager bomb

After getting shut out and two-hit by the likes of Gents game whore Junior Guerra, the Dodgers were in desperate need of a good performance today. It actually would have been a great day to lay some money on them.

They got a big swing from MVP candidate – you heard me – Corey Seager. He hit his 17th home run of the season, and the Dodgers won the game 8-1 in Milwaukee.

We already covered the wonderful Kershaw epidural news that broke today. The Dodgers also marked this day as the day they added Bud Norris to help preserve their lead in the Wildcard standings.

They just need to get back to that magical stadium of theirs on the West coast and let the voice of Vin Scully carry them to some late night wins. With Corey Seager and Vin Scully, anything is possible.

Here’s Bryce Harper’s first ever home run in which we owned him nowhere in Fantasy Baseball

Bryce Harper got former teammate, lefty, and Ohioan Jerry Blevins pretty good the other night in a 5-0 Nationals win in Washington. It was Harper’s 16th home run of the season.

And since we dealt Bryce Harper in a deal for Clayton Kershaw, this is the first time in his young career that we have never owned at least a share of Harper somewhere. Making this one the first in his 113 career home runs that it didn’t just help a little. We’ll probably never own him again either. So yeah, this one smarts a little to type up.

The New MLB figures from Imports Dragon are insanely cool

Alright, who remembers Kenner Starting Lineups from when we were all kids? Coolest things ever, right?

Until we saw these, those were our favorite all-time baseball collectibles. You can see all the figures they’ll be making at Baseballfigures.com, but some of the names include Corey Seager (!), Jose Altuve (pictured above), and Noah Syndergaard.

Imports Dragon is a Canadian company which also makes NHL figures, so you’ll see a fair amount of Blue Jays represented.

They’ve done a great job here giving us an officially licensed, accurate rendering of the stars from the game we all love. Thumbs up to ID.

No big deal, I just traded Bryce Harper away in a fantasy league for Kershaw (never, ever trust a fucking pitcher). In regards to fantasy baseball, I quit.

As an aside, I have sort of jumped on the Dodgers as my National League team with the Reds twisting in the wind as a franchise. So there’s that in play as well.

None of this really makes any sense. If Kershaw was really as hurt as they’re saying, you don’t put up the numbers that he was putting up.

The cherry on the sundae is going to be watching the Giants in the world series again in October. I just know it.

I’m going to go hang myself now with a pair of my non-matching dress socks. Have a good one.

Drink Plenty of Water
Drink 8 to 16 ounces of water before going inside the sauna room, holistic physician Lawrence Wilson recommends in “Sauna Therapy.” During the sauna bath, the body produces a therapeutic sweat that eliminates heavy metals and toxic chemicals, Wilson says. Exercise prior to entering the sauna. Since the sauna promotes circulation of the flow of blood through the body, this will help you recover from joint and muscle soreness from your workout. Plan your use of the sauna on days you rest from exercise. While beneficial in conjunction with exercise, it is claimed that a session of 15-20 minutes will give you a workout equivalent to a brisk walk of 1-2 hours. Choose the Right Temperature

Studies show that it’s best to heat the sauna to a temperature between 176 and 194 degrees Fahrenheit. Alternate Temperatures
After about 15 minutes, you better step out of sauna room to cool down your body in air. It is better to jump into a cold pool or lake. Experts say that shocking your body with hot and cold in succession increases the effects of sauna detoxification and increase the blood circulation in your body.
You need not to get your body chilled. When you start feeling cold, you better come back to the sauna room and stay there until you start sweating again. You have to repeat this heating and cooling of your body three to four times for best results. Just be sure not to exceed 45 minutes in total in the sauna room.

A Cubbies-Redlegs Summer Matinee

Today I went with three friends to see the Reds host the Cubbies on a getaway day. The Cubs won this game 9-2. The seats and weather were great, and we saw a bunch of cool stuff. It was the first time I’ve made it to a game this season, and I just got a new camera.

Ryan Freel’s ex-wife Christie Freel was on-hand before the game for the Red’s community fund. It’s weird to me that a few years prior I was near the exact same seats in this part of the stadium and Freel handed some batting gloves up to some fans. Now he’s gone and his family was on hand in his honor. Life is weird like that.

I can always tell my grandkids that I got to see Albert Almora’s first big league home run. He made a sick catch in centerfield as well.

I just thought this was a great shot of Kris Bryant. One of the more professional photos I took today.

A shot of the Great American Insurance building that overlooks the stadium. It was a beautiful mid-70’s day in Cincinnati. The sun was intense enough to give you a sunburn but there was enough cloud coverage to give you a break here and there.

“The Bar-back” Jon Lamb. Greatest nickname we’ve given to a player? I don’t know what’s better.

Cody Reed was throwing smoke as the Reds starter, 93-94 on the gun and sported the slider. He got a few strike outs but mostly served batting practice. He just needs more time and possibly a third pitch if he’s going to stick as a starter in the big leagues. But the skills are there.

Just the 1,680th big league game in Brandon Phillips’ career, and the 1,545 in a Reds uniform. He made one sick, bare-handed start to a double play.

Kris Bryant, the crown jewel of the Cubbies. We were worried after 15 innings of play last night that he might not play today. He did play, collected a couple of knocks, and showed off the powerful swing. All the fellas on hand that went with me today are big, big fans of Bryant’s game. He is a helluva player.

And it resulted in an inside the park home run that put the Cubs up 3-0 to open scoring. I had a picture of him sliding into home perfectly timed; but my buddy T.J. put his hand in front of my camera.

Billy Hamilton took a baseball off the head (off Adam Duvall’s glove) which knocked him out of the game and resulted in the Rizzo inside the park home run.

Reds fans got free Larosa’s Pizza (good tomorrow with your ticket stub) for Cody Reed and the moribund bullpen striking out ten hitters. This was taken before the highlight of the day 10th K took place.

Javier Baez had himself a day. A couple knocks, a stolen base, a nice hustle play in the field to start a double play. He’s a really valuable little toy for Joe Maddon.

Here’s Wilson Contreras, who has taken on the role of 2016 Kyle Schwarber. He had a run scoring double early in the game. He’s built like an outfielder physically.

Anthony Rizzo, a good Italian boy.

Was this my farewell to Jay Bruce? I think it probably was. I have seen Jay Bruce play so many games in his career live. It’s been awesome. He had a couple knocks today, and in the last at bat that I saw him in a Reds uniform he ripped a double over the head of the right fielder.

Kyle Hendricks seemed to lack a put-away pitch all afternoon but still improved to 6-6 on the season.

One of my favorite shots of the day. My new camera is so solid I got Joe Maddon spitting seeds! Look at that detail folks! Next to him is Dave Martinez.

Right field in this park just looks so much different than it did when I started going to this park. It’s really evolved over the years.
