Will Perimeter Pest Control from my Lawn Care Company Work?

pest proof your houseDo you or your lawn care company treat your home for pests? Perimeter Pest Control service programs have been performed by lawn care companies for the past couple decades. The service entails a lawn care technician filling a backpack sprayer with insecticide (typically bifenthrin) and spraying 1′-2′ up and out along the foundation of the structure. Lawn care companies often offer this service as a solution to keep pests like ants, spiders, centipedes, and others from invading your home. Even some homeowners will grab a bottle of Home Defense® at their local hardware store and perform the task.

Will this method work to get rid of pests? Is it the same service as what a pest control service can do? While this service is an add-on service for most companies, our company is in a unique position as it offers BOTH a true lawn care company, AND a true pest control company under one roof. We thought it would be good to clear up the matter.

Will Perimeter Pest Control from my Lawn Care Company Work?

perimter pest control by lawn care companyWhile spraying these materials could offer minimal relief for a time, there are many times that it simply won’t get rid of pests. This should be understood and considered carefully to see if it’s worth more to have a true pest control company. Here are some basic facts about a “perimeter” treatment from a lawn care company:

Perimeter Pest Spraying by Lawn Care Companies

  • No rodent control is included for mice and voles.
  • No guarantee is offered on this service, thus no return visits between treatments.
  • Interior pest issues are not covered.
  • The expertise of the technician on how to control household pests is no greater than yours.
  • Backpack sprayers hold 2-3 gallons of liquid, so active ingredients rarely penetrate soil.
  • Backpack sprayers can only spray a pin-like stream of liquid approximately 10-12 feet up the structure.
  • Stinging insects won’t be controlled.
  • Ant control is poor since these materials are detectable to ants, and this method often segments colonies and increases activity.
  • Highly-effective ant baits are not a part of this method.
  • Other pest problems are not even an option for treatment by a lawn company.

Why Should I Hire a True Pest Control Company Instead?

pest controlThe partial measure of trying to control pests can help to deter some activity, but most of the reasons people call a pest control company are not covered. Using a true pest control company is about employing specific expertise, multiple application methods, multiple materials, and guaranteed approach. Here are some specific points to consider about what you get when you hire our pest management professionals (or exterminators in older terminology) for a Quarterly Pest Control program:

Pest Management Done by a Pest Control Company

  • Baiting for voles and mice is included. Stations are checked each visit and are refilled and/or relocated to help with rodent issues.
  • Over 20 pests are guaranteed. If issues arise between services, we will return at no charge to remedy the covered pests.
  • If pests become a problem inside, we will treat during a scheduled visit or as a return trip at no extra charge.
  • Our highly-experienced pest control technicians not only have a PA license specifically on how to address structural pests, but they also have additional pest management industry certifications such as NPMA QualityPro Certified, Associate Certified Entomologist, and Certified Wood-Destroying Insect designations.
  • In addition to using backpack sprayers, our pest control vehicles have truck-mounted power prayers that can deliver a large amount of materials when needed to soak down certain areas, reach to second story shutters for wasps nests, and even spray eves and overhangs.
  • Many stinging insect nests require specialized materials such as dusts, foams, or particular liquid materials for better control. These sometimes require specialized equipment to allow materials to reach inside wall cavities.
  • Some pests, especially ants, are treated with undetectable materials so the problem doesn’t get aggravated. In many cases, ant baits are used to get materials carried back to underground or structural ant colonies for better ant control.
  • Pest control technicians are also well-educated on other pest issues that a lawn care technician may not be able to diagnose. These issues are not part of the Quarterly Pest Control program but available. Pests include:  termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes and ticks.

NPMA QualityPro CertifiedIf you’ve been using a lawn care company or even a DIY pest control approach and your methods just aren’t simply fixing your problems, we would be happy to talk about how a true approach to pest management by our experts can not only get pests out of your home, but keep them out with a guaranteed method. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for more information.
