This one was an emotional one for me. I don’t get to see my father in law from New Jersey very often, and he was leaving town today. He’s a Yankees fan. He watched this game with us. It was gridlocked 1-1 much of the game; thanks to Justin Verlander being as dominant in a playoff game as anyone I’ve ever seen. Thanks to Todd Frazier somehow doubling off the guy who was unhittable most of the afternoon.
I felt like the Yankees – trailing in the series 1-0 – would somehow find a way to get him this game. I felt it was meant to be.
Carlos Correa got the Astros on the board by homering off of Luis Severino the other way. Carlos Correa is just built for the big moment.
And then Carlos Correa would go back side in the bottom of the ninth off Aroldis Chapman. This of course won the Astros the ballgame.
The Yankees are a good team. The Yankees have fought hard every step of the way and gotten off the mat continually to even get to this point. But it’s hard to imagine them finding a way to climb out of a two-game hole in this ALCS series to somehow win this and reach the World Series; even with it heading back to the Bronx. That said, there’s little to hang your heads about. The Astros with Correa, Verlander, and probably the game’s best all-around player at the moment in Jose Altuve just have too much for them right now.
