House of the Week: Sharp Lines and Stunning Views in SoCal

The brand-spanking-new owners of this Newport Beach home are getting more than 5 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. They’re getting stunning views of the Pacific Ocean that even the listing agent can’t stop talking about.

"Of all the homes I've had the opportunity to sell or represent, this is probably the most calming, soothing house, as soon as you enter the property," says real estate agent John Cain. "The view is amazing: the harbor, Catalina Island. It’s really awesome."

Also awesome: the home’s $22-million price tag — a record, Cain says, for this part of Orange County.

Set against a backdrop of the ocean, the home features unobstructed views of the sea and the sunset from the backyard infinity pool and sunken firepit. There's a climate-controlled 1,100-bottle wine cellar and an exposed wood-beam ceiling, with light fixtures that have a mid-century modern feel.

The developer enlisted the help of experts when designing an ultramodern home theater. The soundproofing was engineered by the same company that completed dozens of studios with Dolby Premier certification, Cain says.

The 12,600-square-foot home also boasts its own elevator, a nine-car garage, and a gym with retracting windows, providing open-air workouts in Southern California's sunny, dry climate.

The house is brand new and was on the market less than one month, quickly selling for $100,000 above listing price. Listing agents say the sale puts the home in the record books for highest price per square foot in Crystal Cove, a neighborhood in Newport Beach.

"At night, the view is outstanding because you have the harbor and the city lights," Cain says. "You get some great ocean and some great harbor, but because this is a really wide lot, you get it all."

John Cain of the CAIN | WHITE Group at HOM Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
